My cat's wake-human-up ritual is becoming more elaborate. Show more

@RebelMoogle Cool. BTW, as far as the VR event goes, I mostly get jetlagged flying east and feel super-productive-early-riser flying west, so I say go for it.

@RebelMoogle I haven't been back and I know it must have changed so much, because it was changing so fast when I lived there. I miss the food the most.

@emily I am also Emily and used to live in Brooklyn and honestly can't tell whether or not you are a fellow cat and bike-loving Emily I already know or not. :joy:

@RebelMoogle So I almost forgot that I saw this earlier but I scrolled back and found it! I am back home in Philly now but lived in SEA from 2012-2015. Moving there is summer is the way to do it--it's beautiful then.

Just saw my first bad toot (the fourteen words) which garnered a "Last tweet of this kind before ban" message from an admin within 4 minutes. *raises a glass to our Mastodon hosts*

is it true that mastodon is actually a psyop created by hover and namecheap to spur people into paying crazy prices for hip domain names such as "balls.hypno.gongle.sigil", "godzone.fuck" and "will.i.am.shitner"

@andyonhere I believe we have selected Mr. Clean as our leader.

@oldhat Exactly! And I've reached the point where I have nothing to contribute because so many people are saying the same thing. Just retweet and zing, meh.

Things I won't miss from the bird place: Nazis, political bots, threads, , nested quoted tweets that don't pay off when you get to the bottom, institutional accounts that exist for PR without thinking about what content a follower wants to see, accounts that tweet with so many abbreviations and hashtags that you can't derive sense from it, brands that tweet the same content multiple times per day, being forced to make grammatical errors to fit in 140 characters, and oh yeah, Donald Trump.

I am responsible for a data center and am about to close on a house, so now I spend all my time thinking about air-conditioning.

The true test of mastodon will be if people use it to talk about anything other than mastodon

Hey! If you are experiencing that the timelines are out of sync you are NOT GOING CRAZY.

There's currently a backlog of just under 15000, last night it was 190000.
It's getting better! But until then your timelines will be a bit weird.

The processing is being improved as we are speaking!

@eenor My secret is just always using it without thinking, even though I haven't necessarily actively liked it since about 1998. Sometimes people think I'm a guy called Brad, and once someone tried to launch a line of bodysuits called Bradamant, but I had the username everywhere so they gave up after clogging my mentions for year or so. Ha!

@orielle That's actually more clever, I think, to know of a similar-sounding but totally different interesting animal. Cheers @CobaltVelvet.

@eenor And now I'm worried about my username! :P I took bradamant which I've used since the 90s but maybe I should have snagged Emily somewhere while I still could.

@RebelMoogle Ah, I see, there's a lot more info on about/more! Well, that sounds pretty good to me. I'd trust a competent sysadmin with my life. :)

Only thing I don't like about this so far: not knowing what it means to choose one mastodon server over another, and anxiety that I have chosen wrong for some reason I don't know yet. That said, I'm envisioning the Octodon as a many-armed furry prehistoric creature, which I rather like. And I don't *think* I'm having any problems with remote following.
