game for american friends: try to guess what these yorkshire words mean. I'm only using words that I've grown up with and said myself.
Flummoxed
Sempt
Bairn
Bray
Chip 'ole
Larkin
Mank/Mingin
Owt/Nowt
Sarnie
@puppy which is the 5th one?
@boobs_idiot the four i understand is flummoxed, mank, owt and sarnie
@puppy it means like "playing", so as a kid people would knock on my door and ask "Are you larkin?"
@boobs_idiot ahhh, gotcha
I wanted to add "Sirry" (pronounced like Siri and meaning Silly) but I don't think that's a common word? just something my granny says i guess
@boobs_idiot yeah that sounds...less dialect and more just straight mispronounciation
@boobs_idiot yeah the only thing that came up is a racist urban dictionary definition and nothing else, thats jus yer gran mispronouncin silly
@boobs_idiot
Flummoxed confounded
Sempt - ?
Bairn - baby
Bray - sound a burro makes
Chip 'ole - ?
