So, wait, remind me why I should ever use FB/Twitter ever again? What are they giving me for the value they extract from me? Anything I can't find elsewhere without being harvested for crappy targeted ads?

In that post, it was in the context of Apple's attempts to implement Differential Privacy, but I am no fanboy to their weird efforts. I'm just always excited to hear about alternatives to the data-harvesting social contract we've been told to sign for every service.
@blurredweasel I welcome various models to emerge for supporting the infrastructure. What's frustrated me in the past is the ONLY offer the market had was "GIVE US YOUR DATA, YOU GET COOL SOCIAL TOOLS"
Just the mere existence of other options is refreshing.
