This was my first full active day on Mastodon. As an experiment, I decided to leave the birdsite for a week.
And so far, it's working out really great! I'm thrilled about all the atypical, queer and poly folk in here, and I'm impressed by everyone's openness and kindness. I feel really comfortable in this diverse environment, and I'm glad to be part of it! :sparkles:
Yesterday, in our weekly creative meetup, I felt the urge to draw this! :)

@mattrified Hello! @viTekiM said you're awesome, and why shouldn't I trust this total stranger!
Step closer to @awedjob, and they'll declare you a legitimate artist: http://tiny.cc/WOL
@awedjob Thanks for making me a legitimate artist! :dizzy:

Hi, I'm Sebastian, but my friends call me blinry! If you find me in a search, make sure to say hi! :)

Honestly its pretty great when children clock me. They often ask me "are you a boy or a girl?" or something similar, and I get to tell them "neither!" or "you can be whatever you want!" Their parents often try to make their kid stop talking to me, but I see the look of possibility in the faces of those kids. It's lovely to see.
@blinry I think the enchroma glasses for colorblind people work the same way
"パオる" means TOOT in Japanese for now. It originates from パオーン(paooon) which is the onomatopée for elephants.
@blinry @dredmorbius Is there a feed for the "home" page, ie. the feed of everyone I follow ?
"Enhancement of human color vision by breaking the binocular redundancy"

This is nothing short of amazing. The authors designed a pair of glasses which gives you super-natural color vision, by putting different color filters above on eye. Clever! https://octodon.social/media/InSywcEWzfwBKmM-U5k
You know, in my early days on the birdsite (10y ago, yigoonie) there was much a similar atmosphere to here — well, actually more like the busier instances. I was late for an early adopter, user 1M+, but even then it was *social*. Then as it got busier I fought the tide. I unfollowed rapid tweeters. I tried to read every tweet.
Then I let go and just let the noise take over. I heard what I heard and didn't worry about what I missed.
But this reminds me of those old days. That's friggin awesome.
@dredmorbius is collecting many more findings and Q&A in the replies to this toot: https://mastodon.cloud/@dredmorbius/34102
Oh! Mastodon has built-in Atom feeds for each user:
https://SERVERNAME/@USERNAME.atom
For example: https://octodon.social/@blinry.atom
(via @dredmorbius)
Some things I learned about the Mastodon web UI:
The profile page of a user on another server won't show all of their follows/posts. Open it in a new tab (by middle-clicking their username in a toot) to view them all.
To boost or fav a toot on an external site, copy its URL into the search box on your local instance. The toot will be shown as a search result.
I started writing a wishlist for #Mastodon, so I don't forgot about bugs / ideas even when I can't afford the time to write issues (happened at least three times already).
