Vero, tired: First million users free

Mastodon, wired: All millions users free

If you report a toot who does the report go to? Is it the remote instance admin? Does your local instance admin get reports too? I imagine it would be useful for them to figure out which instances they might want to block etc.

I can't help but feel very suspiscious when someone brings up blockchains in a conversation about decentralization. I just don't really buy into it at all. Social applications on top of Ethereum? Yeah, love to ruin the planet with proof of work algorithms just to post a cat gif.

Wacky Idea:

Step 1: Create some awful blockchain/gig economy company

Step 2: Hire a 20something white cis man to be a fake co-founder so you can get VC money

Step 3: Instead of wasting tons of VC money on SF office space and free beer, run the company frugally and burn through the rest of the cash on social welfare projects

Step 4: Still don't make profit and fail, just like all of the other startups in the space, but fail with a legacy of turning VC money into actual social good

David Crystal (whose work on Original Pronunciation (OP) for Shakespearean productions I love) writes in his *The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language*,

โ€œThis work is founded on the belief that the systematic analysis and discussion of is an essential step towards any world in which mutual respect and tolerance is a reality. โ€˜They don't speak like us; therefore, they aren't like us; therefore they don't like usโ€™. This is the kind of logic that this book seeks to deny.โ€
