fight how you can and when you can, but getting jailed is often less effective than basically teaching in ways that become von neumann memes -- self-replicating methods that teach themselves by people doing them

My favourite thing about the #SpaceRace is that the urgency forced the US to make a state space program to keep up with the USSR. They had to keep the program fully state-controlled in order to prove that Capitalism is the best. I hope the irony wasn't lost on them.
Things I Feel Weird Shouting At My Cat # 7635758735: "No! You don't like Pocky!"
The answer to our air being polluted is not to tell people not to breathe.
The answer to capitalism is not to tell poor people to stop trying to acquire money to live.
The new release of Signal has support for encrypting and sending arbitrary files. That's a very big deal: for many users it has long been an unsolved problem to securely share documents or recordings, and now it's as easy and sending a text. Update out now for Desktop, iOS, and Android!

The boss "owns" the means of production in so much as there is, maybe, a piece of paper ascribing it to be his property. But that relation is also a construct. If there are police who will enforce this ownership (such as by considering fired employees to be trespasser and arresting them) then the ownership is real. Unionizing often works because when nobody will work the relation of "ownership" is the only weight the boss still has, he is helpless before those who actual act out production
Make a fucking scene. Scream. Keep screaming. Don't let the collective group-think be that women are acceptable collateral damage for white dudes to have a space online.

The unsexy future of ebooks: they will probably play an important role as technical manuals, etc and all the other junk books you see at the thrift store and save paper/trouble/cost but probably won't replace the books that people read for pleasure (novels, poetry) except as an ancillary tool.
The internet's unsexy thing-that-must-not-be-uttered: the truth makes horrible clickbait.

Life is like a box of chocolates.
I can't afford it.
one thing I really love about HK is that customer service/retail workers don't pretend to like you or be happy to see you. in the US it feels like if your a paying customer that's the equivalent of holding a gun to someone's head, it just feels really creepy and awful how compliant they are. I always want to be like, I've had retail jobs most of my life, I know you're not actually happy to see me, I'm sorry you have to pretend to be
This week has evaporated, between traveling to and from a funeral and the funeral itself I feel so detached from time passing this week.
Wow. So I looked up the history of words for the impaired because why not.
Apparently the word cretin comes from French chrΓ©tien (Christian). The implication was people with impairments were "still Christian." Still human and deserving of dignity.
It went from being a plea for compassion and tolerance to offensive and gross.
That's really depressing.
