Why are news/media organizations always trying to get me to "learn about our new look". I appreciate design and aesthetics as much as the next person, but I'm here to read and consume news.
@sonicbooming They don't get that, which is why they keep fucking with their websites' UI in the first place.
@starbreaker I realize it's likely b/c of how they need to balance advertisements/news/subscriptions, etc. Also, with "look we redesigned a thing" for their investors.
It's just stupid that it's such a common thing. Just focus on good journalism and people will continue to read and consume the media that is being produced.
@sonicbooming @starbreaker For the past half-dozen years or so many sites have been redesigned because the front-end and/or platform have dead-ended and can't reasonably be incrementally improved.
The reasons are usually about money in some way, of course, but as often as not a ground-up redesign is necessary to provide accessibility and better web security. So you have to take the irritating (more ads) with the good, and try to ignore the marketer bizspeak they're wrapping their rationales in
