Please help/ question on using #Mastodon:
I’m adding descriptions of pictures for the visiually impaired since I joined. I’ve never done it before so I’m wondering how descriptive do you need to be? There seems to be a character limit and through the browser on my tablet (Firefox, iPad) I’m unable to properly edit (can the powers that be fix the size of the writing box?).
I wrote the description in notes then copy/pasted but it looks truncated and once posted I don’t know how to check.
@mwenyi Ask yourself, "If I couldn't see this, what would I need to know about it to understand why it was posted?"
For example, a picture of a cat. Sometimes you need to describe the cat. Sometimes what the cat looks like isn't as important as what the cat is doing. Sometimes what's important is that it's a drawing of a cat, not a photo. Sometimes it's sufficient to say "a cat".
