Has there ever been a video game where swords require ammunition?
I don't mean swords with a built-in gun, I mean a sword that needs a consumable to perform its standard sword functions of slashing and stabbing.
@apLundell I remember something in the zero punctuation review of day z(?) about an axe being loaded with a hundred thousand of something
@ben That's amazing. According to the Wiki, the engine doesn't support melee weapons, so the hatchet is actually a gun that holds 10,000 bullets but has a range of about a meter.
Brilliant!
@apLundell Destiny? I at least know Destiny 2 has sword ammo, it's not like you can't use swords without it, but they're a lot slower and not very good without it.
@cowwan Oh wow. I never played it. This was exactly what I was trying to find. A game with literal sword ammunition.
Thanks.
@apLundell hmm, Oblivion's durability mechanics kinda fit this
@violet @apLundell space station 13's stun batons require power to be used as not-a-weapon (you flip them upside down to use them as a weapon, and if you don't turn them off first something fun happens)
@apLundell TES IV: Oblivion requires you to maintain the sword using consumable repair hammers. So maybe somewhat similar?
@apLundell Certainly both “durability” systems with repair consumables and “stamina” systems with consumable stamina refills/boosts are related enough concerns to be comparable.
@apLundell rags perhaps, to wipe off the blood before you sheath it again into its scabbard?
