Any SMM professionals here? Suppose I want to earn a bit cash by spreading a promo code for a startup I like - will creating pages like this on Wordpress or Medium work to attract users from Google who search for this promo code? Any other advice? medium.com/@neat_hk_promo_code

@maguireja I'm only using Amazon for storage and SMTP.

The app itself is deployed to Scalingo. Basically it's a one-click deployment tool. You click a button on github, enter a few details and boom, you have your app compiled and running.

Here's how I'm doing on setting up my own Mastodon instance:

- Deployed to Scalingo
- Set up SMTP server
- Set up SSL cert for HTTPS
- Works fine to create an account, post stuff etc.

But:
- FAILED to set up Amazon S3 storage, which sucks. Can't figure out the correct values for S3_REGION and S3_BUCKET, and there are no sample configs out there.

Damn it.

The reason why I like Russian music so much is that it's probably one of the few kinds of music out there that's still dark and brutal.

Member when in the 90s all music was about death, and in 00s all music was about suffering and self-harm?

Now everything is too happy-happy.

Meanwhile, Russia's new hit song tells you that you're nothing but a future fertilizer for crops, and the refrain consists entirely of words "behead, piss all over, and burn".

Why I am creating my own mastodon instance:

- I support free speech, something that very few people support today

- I think you should be able to say anything, even if I don't agree with you and think you're an idiot

- I have some money to burn, and why not try and learn new stuff

Trying to configure my own Mastodon instance at mastodon.su... so far failing

One thing that's good about Mastodon is that there are few people here, so you have to talk to strangers and meet new people.

@jynsei8 On the other hand, you get a chance to meet random new people here.

@anton Damn you, you stole my username!

So the mastodon.social privacy policy is ok, but if I were the maintainer I'd avoid recording any IP addresses. One thing to consider is that when you're a meganode both state and non-state organisations will become interested in your logs and will try to obtain them either explicitly, with goons showing up and making threats, or also less explicitly with implants and exfiltration or NSLs and gagging orders. If you don't record IPs then in the worst case there's not much that third parties can get.

Another factor to consider is that the demographic of fediverse folks probably includes a higher proportion of non-normative views and lifestyles than you might find in the silos. These non-normative people are precisely the groups which the really bad guys always seek to target. So as maintainer you should be concerned with your user's interests and practice metadata minimization which can limit any potential damage.

This guy - @gc - is right that your Mastodon experience seems to vary depending on your instance.

I've signed up as @anton - for a while I'll post in both and see what happens.

@gc As someone who is in the business of writing bots, let me say BOTS ARE PEOPLE TOO!

@RodneyBukuya Just kidding, copy-paste this - ✅ - into your name. There's no actual verification.

My face when I hear that in other countries people don't have unlimited mobile internet and don't even have mobile reception on the subway trains: :scream:

@jkb But then you get kind of isolated from the society? And it's scary.

Got my verified checkmark on Mastodon today!

@saturno Just wondering why? I don't know pretty much anything about the pirate party but heard good.
