Net Flix or other streaming services should offer a watch together option where people can watch a movie synched up and talk to each other.
‘iceberging’ is where you tweet something that appears to be complete and self-contained, but which has a longer counterpart on mastodon. for example, here https://twitter.com/direlog/status/850449442591440896 versus here https://mastodon.social/@direlog/1929376
Once, you may have been known as "robertKJohnson_ca", but henceforth my Canadian friend you shall simply be known as "rob". Arise, sir rob
Hey 🎺.☕️ users, so apparently if you don't want to be followed by a followbot you can add #nobot to your profile. Details: https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/000/183/429/original/fbdcda7e14c02db3.png?1491694530
I worked for a company in the past―a distributed company. We had a policy that all developers should be able to recreate their development environment within an hour of putting a bullet through their current one. Good policy. Kept everything distributed, and lightweight :)
something that I'm enjoying here in #mastodon - seeing the general timeline with people that I'm not following. and people reading me, also. It's interesting and engaging. Like a huge party where everyone is trying to connect with each other, despite not knowing anyone. refreshing.
(oddly, if I was attending a huge party "offline", I'd not engaging in any conversations. My phone would be my best friend)
It's #folklorethursday on the bird site. Might as well bring it over here. Here's my piece on fairy stones from my site Spooky Geology http://spookygeology.com/fairy-stones-natural-crosses/
@sungo you *can* delete federated toots, but it's a 2nd message that tells server "delete the previous one" - network delays and failures apply
but this is a good message in principle, it's true for everything that isn't e2e encrypted
About risk profile:
- Mastodon is like email because you can't delete federated toots
- Mastodon is like twitter in that Google's search bots index it, unless your admins robot.txt it away
- Mastodon is like being a teenager because the people that own your instance can see all your private stuff
Have a talk with your admin about their policies.
By default, assume everyone will be able to read your toots forever.
So is there any way the email analogy falls down?
This 500 character limit is blowing my mind.
@raymondedwards they appear to be empty because it only shows you who i follow who's from witches.town (which is currently no one!) i actually follow 200+ people on mastodon.social. i would recommend just looking at the federated timeline and adding people from there
