For the first time I feel like I'm in an environment where I am in the minority in terms of racial identity (white), gender (male), orientation (hetero), and age (old). I rather dig it.

@memepasmal I bet lots of German user also speak French here. I wish I could!

I don't feel that comfortable with Mastodon's decentralised concept. While the servers are decentralised accounts are tied to one server.
Who's behind a server, how commited they are to continue their service: Nobody knows. (Except for mastodon.social itself.)
With server-specific accounts, one's in the hands of the admins: When they decide to stop, the accounts' accumulated social capital is gone.
I'd love to have accounts you can migrate from one server to another without losing connections.

Many people speak french here, but don't call us "the french", we came also from Switzerland :flag_ch:, Belgium :flag_be:, Quebec :flag_ca: or Luxembourg :flag_lu:

@CobaltVelvet I wonder how many of those joined just because of the fluffly name. ;)

I shortly wondered why there is so much French on octodon. Then I found out the server is located in France. There you have it. Also, if you as an English speaker feel irritated that you do not understand it, mind you that most continental Europeans learned a second, third, fourth language to understand -you-.

americans complaining about toots being in french: stop

I feel like I'll need a 'tootdeck' presently to link my different accounts in different instances

@netzpolitik aberaber octodon ist der flauschigste aller Server!

Hallo ihr lieben Follower, wir ziehen mal kurz um und geben uns einen anderen Namen: mastodon.cloud/@netzpolitik_or

@clstal yes, a degu is a rodent. And the mascot for the octodon server! octodon.social/about/more

Funny how I've been boosting toots by complete strangers on completely different instances, as if shouting "Yeah!" across the gulf of the web.

My first (moderately) popular toot is me complaining about people complaining. That satisfies my inner French.
