EFF is resigning from the w3c over DRM and the Encrypted Media Extensions standardization process. This was probably inevitable once w3c leadership abandoned consensus in this arena, but it's still such a bummer to see https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/09/open-letter-w3c-director-ceo-team-and-membership
So what's the easiest way to flash a Pi when I don't have an SD card reader? I was thinking boot from USB on the Pi and install to SD there.
Microsoft will stop caring if you pirate the decade old Microsoft Office starting next month https://twitter.com/IanWVI/status/909621250875674625

Reminder: no matter how advanced artificial intelligence gets, it's still no substitute for sexual harassment by REAL humans
At least for me, it's not that Mastodon isn't taking off (it is), it's that social media in general is past its peak. I moved primarily back to P2P communication (Signal and encrypted email) to talk with my friends. Mastodon / Twitter / Facebook are losing my attention. What about you?
Tech writer: mastodon will never kill twitter
Mastodon users: meh, that's okay, all I ever really wanted was a place where I wouldn't be relentlessly attacked by nazis, ads or nazi ads
Tech writer: and therefore Mastodon sucks and is doomed to perpetual failure
Mastodon users: maybe you want to double-check your metrics of success, bud
Tech writer: dooooooooooooooooomed!
If you think the only reason to use a self-hosted social network is if you want to circumvent the laws, you're making the same argument as only wanting privacy if you've got something to hide. YouTube ran an algorithm to delete "extremist videos" and accidentally irreversibly deleted a bunch of historical evidence of destruction of Syrian historical sites. Shit like that happens all the time when someone else is in charge.
If every decent software engineer knows that faces and fingerprints cannot be passwords because they're neither secret nor can you change them, then why does Apple, which is supposed to be a top-notch tech company, release features like that
Apparently the FCC is now incompetent. I miss Tom Wheeler.
So I've installed Nextcloud on an encrypted Azure VM. I feel it's a good compromise; speed of a hosted service, yet encrypted and segregated. So far it's an amazing (and federated, open-source) replacement for Dropbox / Google Drive.
I'm switching back to Firefox again. The stable version is still sluggish... but the beta version seems to be pretty solid. Also tried the nightly, and the coming features look slick.
I have been doing weird things in Sims, like building bunkers to hide from imaginary zombie attacks.

I just put the sound bar on "Sport" mode for the first time for the Overwatch World Cup. This is my idea of sports.
Is there a good alternative to Gmail now? I keep pulling legitimate email out of my spam folder (a dozen this time). It's so bad.
Also, I'm hungry. PB&J?
Oops. I accidentally stayed you until 3am playing Cities Skylines.
But now I have an underground highway with urban on and off ramps.
