So what's the modern way now of hosting "apps" easily? I previously used Puppet to keep a few websites/IRC bouncers/file servers/etc. up on a couple VMs, but the management overhead was high. Putting everything into Docker... I'm not sold on. I think I want something like Juju, full-stack orchestration I can deploy onto a single VPS. What do you do?

@andschwa look into guix. like srsly, it, together with nix, is revolutionary. personally, I think guix is the way to go - if you want a slightly more "production ready" thing, you might be more swayed by nix.

Also the guix community is amazing.

@atheia Hey! That looks promising. I've been very intrigued by NixOS before. Thanks.

@atheia Do you run GuixSD or NixOS or Guix + Nix on some other distro?

I am probably looking for commodity hosting, e.g. a single VPS on DigitalOcean to start with. I just need to replace my (now-ancient) CentOS VMs...

@andschwa I run both. My Laptop is running guixsd; my work horse is running Debian + guix. at the very least guix is a better version of debian backports imo.
