The new iPhone X depth camera means that:
-automatic photography and video manipulation is suddenly mainstream
-but only for the selfie camera.

How long will it be before people use that new iPhone to replace their face by a younger, nicer version of themselves when videophoning on dating sites?

Taking this post as an example of a larger problem. It says you were looking for "like-minded people to follow". It is not the first post which says that.
That is the problem with so-called "social networks", that we all try to follow like-minded people. The result is tunnel vision and clan mentality. We also need to read people who are not like-minded from time to time.
Of course we will dislike what they write, but that's life.

On n'est pas du côté de Château-Larcher sur cette photo?

No problem, send the male go-go dancers to get the female members of Antifa excited as well... 🤡🤡🤡
@Cocoron

We all have something to hide: the credentials to our bank account. That is the problem: at the same time that we generalize corporate spying, we also create a network where people can only identify with some secrets that only they are supposed to know.
My bank asks a few random questions to make sure it is me online like my birth date, the name of my mother, etc...
@Blort @schestowitz

But of course. Real life makes poor scenarios for entertaining movies.
@u2764

I wonder how it will be in, say, 10 years. Will everyone have one of these devices that listens and films everything they do 24h/24? Will one be required to give access to the recordings of their private life, communications, internet browsing history and GPS position to be able to get a job or a plane ticket?
Surveillance is creeping in. And if surveillance is everywhere, the one who did not agree to be bugged will stand out.
@schestowitz

You can choose between 3 different sounds on the zoé, check youtube for demos.
@sciss

I don't know. Probably people who will have the most followers, no?

@y

Yes. Probably about 30% of the general population.

@Zenwood

Evolution? Like, top pickers get better reproductive success?
Social hierarchy is quite common amongst animals.
@y

I don't think people do not want to debate issues. They don't want to rehash debates they have had a few times already at infinitum, and recent political discussions tend to feel that way. That is a different thing.
@Migukin

Not "if", "when". It is a fact of human interaction.
Instead of wishing for it not to happen, we should study how to handle the problem. But I have no idea. Maybe have the system act differently dependent on the number of followers? Where is a social science graduate when you need one?
@y

Unfortunately, it is just a thing humans do. If you wish death to hierarchy, you wish death to the human race.
No, some people may find it a good idea, but I think it would be a lonely place, just with roaches and rats... Even if rats are actually pretty nice as pets.
