Welp I now have another account over on MIT's mastodon: axz@mastodon.mit.edu thought I haven't posted there yet.

About 5 years ago I made a conscious effort to consume more media and products starring Asians or made for Asians, and it's been great! This was prompted by the fact that I'm very excited that Terrace House: Aloha State Part 2 is now on Netflix, and Master of None season 2 is coming next month!

I could see Mastadon evolving like how email has if it grows. For ex, a big company comes in to start their own Mastadon instance and/or most users flock to a few major instances with the best UIs, features, and resources for moderation and development. There may also be less risk for users in joining a stable, larger instance that most instances federate with.

@SuzanEraslan I go there usually after there's been some bad press on him bc I'm curious as to how they will spin it. It's truly amazing at times the cherrypicking, motivated reasoning, etc. Like watching a cult trying to convince itself and keep members in line. idk whether or not to be relieved to see the slight shift.

sometimes I read /r/the_donald out of fascination and now is one of the first times times i've seen some significant actual criticism of trump on there (interspersed between the usual calls of "trust him", "4D chess", accusations of concern trolling and shilling)

I am kind of reminded of the early days of Google+ where everyone on it was excited about and every other post was about Google+. I guess we will see in a month or two...

As someone on one of the larger instances without a very specific/niche culture or personality, I wonder if the experience is just totally different for folks in other instances. And yet I don't really want to go make a bunch of accounts in different instances and juggle them either.

I know you can create your own skins but is it possible for one's entire instance or even your specific client to have alternative features or interfaces (like an email client)? Would be awesome.

bird place when I first started studying it in 2011 towards capturing diurnal routines in cities (coffee, sleep, etc). Lots of updates on life and day-to-day, not that much news or politics. Just got here but that is my first impression.
