@Are0h The typical common person would probably like things to be better but only takes only fairly insignificant actions at best. Additionally the rich white guys running social networks really want to ignore the abuse problem because the only solution we know about for abuse right now is human moderators, and that'd cut into their profit.

@CobaltVelvet I've occasionally wondered if you could run a personal mail or web server with a caching proxy server at a CoLo but have most of your archive at home on a home connection.

That should protect your home network, and could limit how much data is exposed to cloud attacks.

Though that's only likely to work for services with a fairly small number of users.
