Computer, ARM history

The ARM chip was also designed to run at very low power. [Sophie] Wilson explained that this was entirely a cost-saving measure—the team wanted to use a plastic case for the chip instead of a ceramic one, so they set a maximum target of 1 watt of power usage.

But the tools they had for estimating power were primitive. To make sure they didn’t go over the limit and melt the plastic, they were very conservative with every design detail. Because of the simplicity of the design and the low clock rate, the actual power draw ended up at 0.1 watts.

In fact, one of the first test boards the team plugged the ARM into had a broken connection and was not attached to any power at all. It was a big surprise when they found the fault because the CPU had been working the whole time. It had turned on just from electrical leakage coming from the support chips.

game developers using rtx when they find out that not every surface is incredibly reflective and metallic, making shadows vantablack levels of dark is not enjoyable when you're the person playing the game and you have to find something in those shadows, and that making every game look the exact same and hyperrealistic is incredibly boring compared to stylized graphics

I have been running into a situation where I keep using "RTX" to refer to hardware raytracing acceleration, but this is misleading because RTX is actually NVidia's trademark for their specific implementation and sometimes you want to contrast NVidia with AMD. To solve this, I would like to propose we now refer to the underlying technology as "HRT", for "Hardware Raytracing". "Within ten years all gamers will have access to HRT", et cetera

here's the completed build! I present... the Game Boy Pocket SP. it's a Game Boy Pocket motherboard in a custom shell I designed to resemble the GBA SP. to fit the motherboard into the shell, I cut it in half, and then designed a custom flex PCB to connect the two halves through the hinge. i'm using an aftermarket LCD from Cloud Game Store and Gil Tesa's USB-C charging mod for the internal battery. that neat Link's Awakening label is from nextstopplease.square.site/

@War_Kittens had that moment the other day when my mom mentioned a local shop in conversation; i checked out instagram later, and the very first ad i see is for that shop .^.

just now realizing that popsockets are how women, tending to be smaller handed, manage to hold a phone securely but reach across it with one hand. i curse every large handed engineer that never had to think much about it and i curse the designers who would rather make the factory model Sleek than add affordances for use
