the new rivals character looks good
@salameleon I mean, it looks kinda like hell for Zetter offstage, but that's Zetter offstage for ya
@akoboldskobold I'm awful at edge guarding, so maybe I can learn that with a character who has an excessive number of tools to do so.
But I still 💚 Ori.
@salameleon Honestly this just makes it more imperative that I get my computer fixed because right now I don't have anything to play Rivales on. ☹️
@akoboldskobold Hopefully the repairs aren't too expensive or time consuming. Once you get it set up, though, I'd be open to doing a few friendlies.
@salameleon Thanks! But I honestly I thinking right now that 'fixing' is actually code for 'I'm taking all that I can salvage from the old PC and using them to help build a new one.' Which sucks, but them's the breaks.
But fortunately some of the parts I can salvage are the graphics card and power supply, which takes the fretting about those things off the table for now.
@akoboldskobold Being able to salvage a graphics card is good given how stupid expensive they are right now. Presumably you could re-use the case as well. Hopefully the next round of new CPUs will bring costs down for those as well, though it looks like AMD is really improving at all price points these days.
@salameleon I don't think I'll be able to use the case because the people who actually looked at the thing said that part of why my computer started breaking was that there wasn't enough ventilation. Hopefully I can get somebody to have a second opinion on this, but it's a hypothesis I can believe.
But I guess I'll be looking forward(?) to the next round of CPUs. I guess as a person who is heavily invested into PC gaming, I should read up on what people are actually doing in that space. 🙃
@akoboldskobold I don't tend to follow TOO closely, but my understanding is that AMD is likely to announce next-gen CPUs soon (as in by end of Q2), which should drive prices for existing components down especially if you can catch a clearance sale.
For me, if I were to do an upgrade, I could seriously justify getting an AMD Threadripper (the 18 core / 36 thread one) and 128 GB of RAM... as a business expense so I can simulate a small distributed computing cluster.
@salameleon Thanks! I'll keep that in mind.
@akoboldskobold It's a snake in power armor. How can you NOT approve of this?
