reminders to everyone who, y'know, reads; To Like The Lightning by Ada Palmer and it's sequel Seven Surrenders are the craziest scifi/SpecFic.
nothing ever I've ever read has had me with that level of visceral reaction, or made cheer at that kind of craziness. it's on a whole nother level.
also had interesting things to say, if you catch them along all the intense and over-the-top.
@imallmostgone YES. I'm done with Too like the lightning and I'm about halfway through Seven Surrenders. That universe constantly fills my every waking thought.
There are so many layered, nuanced, brain stretching things ideas to shatter how you think about everything but I have to go to bed, so instead I'll just ask one thing.
What hive would you sign up for and why?
@ZedFable so which hive?
first off, screw the Humanists, I'm not a fan of the "singular mover of history" narrative. and screw Mitsubishi, their shares mechanic is too close to icky capitalist problems. and screw the Masons, that imperialism is not actually smart and very icky. and not Brillist 'cause I'm not a fan of quantifying people types. and not European cause unless a certain size of the mideast is Europe, then I'm not European. and while Utopian is cool, i don't have that level of drive.
@imallmostgone not to imply that Cousin would just sort of be my hive by default or as a consolation prize. I do love what they stand for, but I kind of have similar thoughts to those Kato voiced about how Science should be for everyone, not just the Utopians. In the same way being a good person, caring for the marginalized and standing up for the rights of the oppressed should be everyone's cup of tea, you know? #TooLikeTheLightning #AdaPalmer
