Something I'm still trying to figure out. If your instance only sees toots from other instances that someone on your instance has followed. And in order to get more people from other instances to show up in your federated timeline you have to follow them...
...how do you know they exist to follow them if they don't already show up in your federated timeline?
And if you search for someone, are you only searching your instance?
I'm missing something here.

I guess I should mention that I live in southern Michigan. I have two dogs - a cavalier King Charles and a Chinese crested. Very different personalities but best buds.

I don't even want to hear about free speech. You aren't entitled to someone else's attention. Trolling is not a Constitutional right. You want to do that, spin up your own instance.
And certainly, someone could start a free-speech-anarchist instance with all pest controls off. For mastodon.social, though, I think they have a real responsibility to crack down on this shit.
The right to abuse is not about freedom. It silences people. It restricts freedom and expression—it never enhances it.
A reminder that free speech only applies to government bodies and social media platforms are under no legal obligation to provide you with a forum for oppressive language including racial slurs.
Seeing a few white people trying to defend their use of the n-word on here by appearing selfless and making it part of engaging in conversation.
Find an instance with more lax with their admin rules. That's not censorship, that's an individual using their right to not give you an amplifier.
