Job Interview

So, Yesterday was the first of the two this week.
I didn't really fit the job description well but wrote the application anyway but didn't expect anything back. They invited me anyhow, although it was obvious I lacked some of the qualifications.

I was a bit too nervous in the beginning unfortunately but found my cool later. There were a couple of questions from the field which I wasn't able to answer completly but as it was so out of my field of expertise, expectable.

Also it was freaking hot and awful weather to have an interview.... thank god for the distancing part so they probably couldn't see the sweat running down my face......

Anyhow, just got off the phone. They revealed that they're not hiring one, but two people and I actually made it to third place. So if one of the two declines, they'd reach out.

She was a little apologetic on the phone but overall gave me good feedback and that's more than I expected.

Job Interview

What I really liked was that they at one point elaborated that they do not expect me to be able to do all of the things in the job description any time soon. That this is something that takes a long time to learn (lots of legal and technical stuff) and noone can just "do" that and there would be extensive job training.

So, that will at least help me in the future to be less cautious with applying to jobs where I have doubts about my fit and weather or not I could this.

@Virelai That's so great! But I'm still hoping you'll get the one you actually want.

Job Interview

@Juju Yes!! Thank you <3 If I had gotten it I would have also needed to ask for more time to decide because of the other interview and depending on how long that takes, that could have been tricky. If they call me back next week, I may already know if I got the better job or if there's hope.

Anyhow, better outcome than expected!

Job Interview

@Virelai I hope it all works out for the best!

Job Interview

@Virelai The Job descriptions describe the ideal candidate... often it is difficult to identify the show stopper qualifications in the job offer. So you should feel comfortable with learning all described qualifications and having those you estimate to be essential. Anything else can and will be discussed in an interview.
Better would be a differentation in the offer, but often they don't.
Good luck for your search & success!

Job Interview

@Virelai This is how lots of my interviews have gone! Interviewing “above my qualifications” is how I’ve been able to learn new skills on the job. :)

Job Interview

@autumn that's a really good point! :) I really have to get this into my head!
