I'm so old I remember the time when people were happy/proud of their distribution packaging all the pieces of software they'd use.
Now people just download random shit on the Internet and pipe it to sudo bash.
@Vigdis @HedgeMage You're too harsh: sometimes they use Docker, instead.
@bortzmeyer
@Vigdis :facepalm:
@Vigdis TBH, this is part of why I wanted to setup a mastodon instance, getting some experience with this modern curlbash hipster software packaging paradigm.
Can't say that I'm likely to use that for anything important, still hesitant to promote the mastodon anywhere for users to join before I have a better idea on maintainability.
@Vigdis some of us read the script first, every time we have to install a new node.js, but I know what you are saying, I think.
The solidarity and culture of #openbsd may have what you are looking for... ;)
The messed up part is people have to be educated about security, early in life. Every generation we will be getting a logarithmic scale increase in users that may or may not be ignorant of best practices.
@Vigdis hang on, Flatpak's coming...
@notalaser yes the problem is definitely that there are not enough package managers
@Vigdis piping to bash is the best way to install ransomware, did you know?
You're jealous of my beautiful ransomware!
