Decided to knock this tune out and release it with the colab with my wife, Newt. This is only her second time colabbing with me and it turned out kinda cool. Have a listen and let us know. First time I've used pretty much all VSTs instead of all samples.
@upside I wish I actually understood the theory behind what you're saying. I only have my instincts from years of playing bass, and my wife's amazing ear as reference. Although she got overuled on a few note choices as I changed things to resolve chords vs. Placating to them. I guess my ear isn't so horrible either. Growing up playing metal has me more than comfortable with chromatics and pentatonics.
@Troll It's when you change to the F chord. The melody does some nifty stuff over that change that makes the F chord sound different each time. Hard to explain, but it's kewl.
I like stuff that takes risks and isn't just stock chord progressions, that's why I liked that piece -- I had to "get to know it," which is refreshing.
@Troll I like the harmonic experimentation you're doing over the sus4 , which pretty much identifies the tune. I listened a couple of extra times because I didn't trust my first impression, and found I kinda dig it. Nice and chill, and unafraid to go chromatic. Plus I love the old school sound 😎
