Holiday-related negativity Show more

My nephew has discovered MakeHuman. He is now making the most ridiculous character possible.

I will know that I have arrived when reading the documentation clarifies more than it obscures. Who the heck writes that stuff, and who is their intended audience? Aside, I mean, from people with excellent eyesight who enjoy reading really tiny font.

I sometimes conceal my gender online to avoid gender-based bullshit. For instance, I'm a newbie coder, and there's no indication on my GitHub that I'm a woman. I don't want people associating my crap code with my gender, rather than my newbieness. Not sure how this jibes with the need to support trans and non-binary folks by including pronouns!

I got bumped up to first class. Pretty sure everyone is wondering what I’m doing in first class.

Hell week is over!!!! I survived Hell Week!

I am too fucking old to be doing a group project. I am definitely too fucking old to be doing a group project with undergrads who don't want to be in the class.

Sometimes I wonder why I feel bad and then remember that I forgot to eat all day.

I think I may be about to make a coding breakthrough, but right now I'm in the "I am stupid and I hate my life" stage of dealing with a programming problem.

Ok, so the rubber duckies were a big hit. Definitely doing that again next year. In other news, I am cold, just from opening the door to hand out candy and duckies.

I am offering candy and Halloween rubber duckies, for the kids who don't want/ can't eat candy. A thing I didn't predict is that the kids are fighting over the coolest duckies.

I take it back. The trick or treaters have arrived.

So far, all the trick or treaters are skipping my house. Is it possible that they only go to houses of people they know? That would be a little nutty!

I was so excited about figuring out Git that I didn't focus on the fact that I needed to do an external backup as well. Like I said: dingbat.

I just accidentally deleted the entire project that I've been working on for the past week and a half. Never been so glad that computers have save-dingbats-from-themselves methods.

The good news is that I'm almost done with my CS project! The bad news is that I'm supposed to go hang out with friends, and I'm totally in flow state, and I want to finish my project. But I should go, because human interaction is important.

I am ridiculously happy that I can mostly follow the "Maybe We Should Throw An Exception Here" discussion on Metafilter. I am learning stuff!

The last couple of appointments of my 11-hour day were... actually kind of great? And I am reminded that many of the kids are completely alright.

Goal for today: work another 11-hour day without quitting my job, because I need my job. Remember to never, ever, ever volunteer to work another 11-hour day again.

This has been the week of doom at work, but we just got a Trader Joe's, so at least I have an excellent selection of frozen meals in my freezer.
