So last time I was taking classes, my ADHD wasn't being treated, and I believed that I worked best with the TV or radio on. Now I know that I need minimal distractions. But I haven't figured out what, if any, background noise I should have when I'm coding. I'm thinking maybe music with no lyrics or lyrics not in English? Or maybe I should stick with silence?
@TotallyArbitrary
I got the same thing going on. Music without lyrics works best for me.
I tend to listen to YouTube playlists like ENM and by the time they switch to something with lyrics I'm in flow state and I don't even notice.
@TotallyArbitrary My favorite playlist for this is all really basic, melodic piano: Evgeny Grinko, Michael Nyman, Max Richter, Dustin O'Halloran, Yann Tiersen, Carly Commando, pop song covers, waltzes by Debussy, Schubert, and Mike Strickland. Nothing too slow, dramatic, or complicated
@Wobbuffet I have a ton or Eric Satie that is also excellent as ambient music.
@TotallyArbitrary I know I’m “tooting” my own horn here, but my band Carbon 7 has over 20 hours of instrumental music up on our site, that seems more useful as a background environment for tasks than for close listening. http://carbon7.net/Sound.html
@TotallyArbitrary both silence and music with no lyrics are great for that, when i want to focus i usually listen to post-rock or ambient/psychedelic electronic.
