@craigmaloney I kind of feel like it’s (non-bigoted) christian’s responsebility to talk to people like this. (And thankfully, many of them do.)

@eifie I’ve always seen it as a solution to a very specific problem: being stuck for long periods of time without creating anything (while presumebly wanting to).

I often feel like what starts out as pragmatic advice get’s converted to ‘moral’ statements.

@natecull This reminds me. I was at a 2 day course in usability by Norman Nielsen Group.

They talked about they where frustrated that devs didn't take them seriously when the pointed out (via usability testing) that a UI was too difficult to use. The devs said "well the users are just not smart enough!".

To prove that the UI really was too difficult to use they did the usability test with rocket scientists from NASA and showed that even they couldn't figure out the UI.

@paul Maybe, but don’t think it’s given. They have for example done really well with Minecraft.

On the other hand, I bet lots of devs would be really uncomfortable with Microsoft hosting their source code.

@baldur Incidentally I am considering getting the 50mm f2 instead of the 35mm f2.

Since you have both which do you use for what? Do you always have both with you or do you decide on one when you leave the house?

@baldur Interestingly I only had a 50mm (full frame) for years and it really pushed me to consider perspective/"crops" of landscapes I wouldn't have otherwise.

Don't think I would have thought to taken it if I had other focal length options.

Every summer I end up looking at Dyson fans. They just look so futuristic.

Then I see the price. Then I read the reviews, which tend to say that they are in many ways worse than regular fans.

And I also remember how few days of the year I actually use a fan.

Not only the fact that they are "bladeless" (that is, blades hidden in the base), but the styling is just really well done.

I wonder if a non-crazy priced much smaller (they're all to big for me) equivalents exist.

I thought Mastodon would be like an decentralised Twitter, but I'm starting to feel like that's a oversimplification on my part.

I'm not exactly sure how (aside from the whole open and federated thing), but it just seems to be more different from birdsite than I thought.

So the whole thing is kinda confusing to me right now.

Seems to be a lot of cool people here though.

@baldur Interesting! I got the 23mm f2 myself. In my previous system I had a 50mm fullframe equivalent. I convinced myself that I needed a 35mm ff.eqv.

And it certainly is flexible (and produces good results)! But I really miss having a slightly narrower FOV. The 50mm (35mm APS-C) FOV tended to get me really beautifully composed shots. So I am considering getting that one down the line (when I can afford it).

But at the same time it seems to close to the 23mm, you know?
