My today's Weird Wikipedia entry over at Textual Pleasure Den is Prince Rupert of the Rhine. Oh he of the "Prince Rupert's Drops" fame!

I don't know whether I should keep tagging you specifically interested parties or not. I guess I will for today anyway and trust you'll let me know otherwise.

@ROSSAM Maybe I could send a piece to you tied to a balloon! ๐Ÿ˜„ One small correction: "It looks very delicious at me!" would mean like this picture. We would say in English, "It looks very delicious to me!" haha!

@ROSSAM

The egg whites were a little too fluffy and the other fillings tried to escape them. But it tastes better than it looks!

@ROSSAM I spoke too soon. Still 10 minutes In the oven. I will post pictures soon. I am excited as it is my own recipe and first time cooking it!

@ROSSAM Almost, but I stay up later into the night than most people. I just cooked a quiche from spinach eggs, cheese, and coconut crust. I will eat a late dinner before getting ready for bed. Want to see? :)

@JanMikusinski If you use Google Chrome to browse the internet you can use this extension to get the definition of any word by simply double clicking on it. It might make learning or reading English faster: chrome.google.com/webstore/det

@JanMikusinski We native speakers do too actually when reading books or research. English has the most distinct words of any language. I have heard it said that, "as China is to population, English is to words."

I sometimes picture mastodon as those Haven cities in zombie films.

"I heard it's safe! They got food, clean water, and the brands ain't got up there yet!"

If you have an animated profile from way back and it is not showing up on the local or federated timeline, reupload it and apparently it will make a still thumbnail of it to represent it when it doesn't have focus.

I simply cannot believe this person shook my confidence on Balloon Boy being a hoax... I feel like the ground is crumbling under my feet. What is truth? What is fiction? Is there an objective reality?

@JanMikusinski I suffer from a similar problem in the other direction. I wonder if we could learn to simplify our languages in a standardized way for easier communication between them. Otherwise, I think we will have to wait for dramatically better machine translation. However, that may not be as far away as it seems.

Japanese Mastodon users are excited about the project above and beyond even organizing an offline event

Discussions will seemingly be technical stuff.

@agektmr Cool! Very interesting too. It seems Japanese are excited about Mastodon from a conceptual and technical perspective, and maybe even in the philosophical goals. But somehow there also seems to be a much higher amount and higher acceptance of early commercial/institutional participation compared to here so far. Is this right?

@wakest I am calling myself a "meme ambassador" over on mstdn.jp and am soliciting obscure Japanese memes. Sadly (if only maybe predictably), I haven't got any yet. I don't know how much is due to my being absolutely incomprehensible having had to use machine translation to ask for them or if they are just not interested in cross-cultural meme exchange. There have been a few bright spots however... octodon.social/media/yMdgZuZNP
