I rebuilt my website from scratch. Still far from perfect but better than before:
LTT Linux challenge part 3 only conforms my opinion that Linux Mint Cinnamon is the best Linux desktop currently available.
While Gnome and elementary are focused on eye candy, Mint folks are doing boring job to make sure that typical user experience is good.
Simple example: installing software-properties-gtk by default. It's not pretty but at least you can install drivers to your shitty wifi card without googling.
web surfing has become all but impossible. nothing links anymore, it's all narcissistic inside linking if anything. i used to surf links across the network, stumbling from one thing to the next, surprises and missteps. now it's all search hubs and feeds rather than networks.
what we use now via the http protocol isn't really the web anymore. there's no web here. it's all silos, standing alone and trying desperately to keep me from leaving. no longer a digital ocean, now small tide pools with no path between, left in the receding wake of the surf.
I'm raising my kids with #Linux on the desktop, 😛 Sure, it's heavily curated and set up by me so all they have to do is click buttons for their browser, games, etc., but that's how it should be. Linux lets them do what they want, and gives me the level of control I want, without having to go through a third party like Google or Microsoft. My 7 year old can navigate Gnome better than she can Windows.
If anyone needs to sync cookies from FF to Netscape cookies.txt file (including session cookies) to use it with curl: here is nice script for ya: https://gist.github.com/TeddyDD/5dcb51d08cc96aa53c6beec96a71b69c
