New Zealand was first discovered in the 18th century by an unknown explorer from the country of Zealand, which no longer exists but is today part of the United Kingdom.
@Elizafox I thought New Zealand was discovered at the end of the Second World War when everyone looked around and realised we weren't in a weird farm yard in England but rather on the other side of the world.
