As a white trans woman I find myself identifying strongly with the rage, ego and vulnerability embodied in rap. I find this confronting as a dedicated observer of a culture not my own, I am taking the souls of these works into my own identity. Finding the themes, moods and tones of my own culture lacking in the expression of these fundamentals. I lay no claim to rap or to the identities expressed in hip hop, yet it inspires me to embrace my own identity. A force reaching between worlds.
