I worry sometimes about the UX of Mastodon if everything that's not entirely pithy goes under a CW.

I, of course, respect the reasons why anyone would ask for one. But the more things end up under CW, the more I become trained to just reflexively open them whether it's good for me or not.

I think it would be nice if users could opt to permanently open certain CW words. Like "tech", the example that got me thinking about this.

So, I've put off tooting about this for a long time, but I guess since the conversation is happening, I'm going to wade in.

I'm not just annoyed at all your tech toots, I'm actively triggered by them. I got my master's degree in interactive tech in a program where I felt constantly belittled and where I felt condescension from my professors and fellow students because I was a femme presenting woman.

Unfortunately the answers I was given about the abuse experienced here on mastodon.social are not sufficient to make me feel safe or welcome.

Being a straight, cis, white lady saying that should hopefully make you understand that those less privileged than myself are in a position to feel even less safe.

Continuing with instances whose admins endorse and commit harassment, libel, and numerous other infringements of their own rules is not a safe practice. It endangers every user here.

tl;dr strong speech isn't necessarly inappropriate speech. Fascists don't count.

Mastodon (as a culture) needs to be more inclusive of people who aren't white, aren't male developers, or sometimes, aren't folks in adjacent subcultures. Including how they people "on the outside" speak.

In contrast, white male devs can say almost anything they want, including talking about tech with no CWs, and anything else they want to go on about, unencumbered.

The math didn't work out

I have a feeling that a lot of people who believe that doing this #ForkOffTogether thing is antagonistic of me, is fueling the fire, being a drama queen, really are thinking that "well nothing happened in 3 days, guess there is no fork"..

And I'm like, well I had planned to leave it up for a week or two before we got to work but:
*because of the overwhelming support started working in the first 24hrs
*making sure none of us working now become defacto leaders in the process.

It takes time.
