*Confused gender noises*

Hey, here's a thought.

Developers may have a vested (so to speak) stake in the code they write and maintain, but the people who use a social media service, *we're* the ones that have a stake in -- and effectively, own -- the community built on that code.

*ALL* the people who are building that community own it. Not the people who are closest to the developers, not the people who most closely resemble the developers, everybody.

Consider the implications of this.

This work may seem slow, but we're trying to get it right from the very start.

I don't want to over share as it's also a process of iterations.

What I can share is that, we will send out some sort of official invitation when this current work is done. And then we'll have a meeting, and go from there.

Be patient, and save your thoughts and ideas somewhere, we'll need them.

Be careful this pride month: some posts that include lesbian/gay/bi/pan/trans/nonbinary stuff are purposefully ignoring ace, aro, intersex, ply and queer people;

Some posts talking about "cishets" are actually jabs at ace, aro, intersex, or even nonbinary or multi people they don't like

Posts about "het relationships" are frequently about nonbinary people who "don't seem gay enough" or about multi people who aren't exclusively dating people of the same gender as them

My 6 year old son has been having a lot of trouble with kindergarten. He has trouble focusing on tasks, becomes disruptive, and runs away from class. We have him working with an occupational therapist.

His school has a relatively experimental (and failed IMO) open design, where several classrooms are open to one another. For the kindergarten classes, this means constant chaos.

What kind of services would you want to see a version of in the fediverse?

That somehow talks ActivityPub and can communicate with us to some extent.

Is it just me (I know it's not just me, I've seen a lot of us struggling with this on here) or is pride somehow causing a lot of extra angst for my bi and pan siblings this year? What's going on that it seems that we're all feeling especially fraught about it?

I think it's going to take building a culture of inclusivity around the tech needs. De-centralizing social media is a fantastic idea, but it seems de-centralizing the culture around social media needs to be a priority.

Diversity and inclusivity have to be baked in before a single line of code is written. Personal ideology can't dictate what needs are met vs those that are not.

Protecting people cannot be a tacked on feature.

@Gargron People like us have the power; we must pay attention to the opinions of people unlike us, or else we abuse that power, whether we mean to or not.
