Yes, there are differences, like that minecraft isn't technically open source, and "game" is even more someone's toy compared to mastodon, but despite that: within discourse there were valid concerns, which were heard by devs and devs are continuing listening to the community
What I saw on mastodon was complete dismissal of the underlying issue by main dev and him saying "it's my toy", when it's no longer his toy, there's also community that wants to be heard

Some wanted it recreated as a feature. Others were complaining about game breaking bugs not being fixed. And others, many of which were mods, helpers and devs, wanted it to just be removed
And from the last side there were lots of dev-speak, like "don't like it - use old version" or "devs are always right, 'cos it's their game"
