You know, doesn't it seem like the disaster in Puerto Rico would be the perfect opportunity for this so-called president to make at least part of America "great again?"

New infrastructure. Efficient, robust, sustainable energy grid, transportation, and communications systems. Etc.

Done right, Puerto Rico could not only recover, but become a model for the world.

@Stonekettle Because of you I joined Mastodon. I have no idea if I'll use it, but what the hell. Now look what you've done.

@GottaLaff Awesome.

I don't know how it'll work out. But I'd dearly love to see it succeed as a better twitter.

@Stonekettle That would be a relief. I'm still trying to figure this out.

@Stonekettle Do we know anyone else on Mastodon? I don't know who to follow.

@GottaLaff

@pzmyers is here. I don't know anybody else yet. Place still has that new car smell.

@Stonekettle it takes time to discover people but I've found it's worth it. I've had more quality interactions here than I can remember having anywhere else online since the BBS days...

@GottaLaff @pzmyers

@Stonekettle Now you know that's too much like right.
I feel so afraid for the country.
Running for office in my little neck of the woods. So I'm coming off Twitter and Facebook for now.

@Stonekettle but he isn't interested, he would prefer this as an opportunity to have his peers take over and displace the current population, then they can make the island over.

@Stonekettle Thanks for the recommendation, Jim!

@Stonekettle Right, but does he even grok that PR is part of America? I mean, they all espeak espanish so they can't be. It is known.

@Stonekettle And what a wonderful world it could become.

@Stonekettle YES! Starting from scratch. Solar. Tidal. Wind. I'd love to see it become a model of modern safe, clean energy. But...trump.

@Stonekettle There's not much he's good at, but wasting opportunities seems to be one of them.

@Stonekettle This administration relies POC to be needy, with their hands out. Keeping Puerto Rico abject and desperate bolsters the idea that they are a drain on our resources - that they are the problem.

If we were to help Puerto Rico to become functional and prosperous, Trump's base would wonder, "Why them and not us?" (Because it's always "them" vs. "us" with some people.) So making Puerto Rico a model would completely undermine the administration's image of making [white] America great.

@Stonekettle That would require that he help brown skinned Spanish speaking people. I doubt that is in the cards. The big ocean is probably the only reason he is not calling for a Rico Wall.

@Stonekettle I have a friend that lives in Juncos, PR. He really wishes that things could get better organized to help people there. He says it's worse than anything anyone can even imagine.

@Stonekettle you are right. He could have been the catalyst. I hope that other companies will follow in the lead of what Tesla is doing.

@Stonekettle Except for the part where Puerto Ricans don't get to vote for President, so they aren't of any use to him.

@Stonekettle If only we still wanted to be leaders, ground breakers, build starships, ya know, like when amerika was great?

@Stonekettle I see I need to pay attention to date/time stamps. Boost = Bump

@Stonekettle except "make America Great Again" was just campaign slogan. Not an actual game plan.
