This is a typically illuminating XKCD illustration, with a sobering gut punch that you know is coming, but still hits hard...

That said, what saves B7 is that the stories are pretty good. It's also, even now, unusual to see a crew that so openly bitches, moans and fights with each other.

Also, it's pretty rare to see this much beige and flares in a sci-fi show.

Show thread

For some reason, I'm on a British sci-fi tip right now (well, it helps I'm British). Tracked down Blake's 7 on YouTube. And my god, when they say this show was cheap... they aren't kidding. Makes Doctor Who in the same period look like a blockbuster epic.

"Let's play a game, to help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same."

Interesting; when you reply to a 'content warning' expanded toot, it includes the pre-CW bit of text. Can see uses and abuses for that...!

FYI those green checks are just emoji ❎:white_check_mark:

Wow, I just realized 'picking a federation' is the Mastodon equivalent of 'picking a server' in an MMO at launch. No-one wants to be on the low-pop server / instance.

The 'federated timeline' (still can't get over that name) is really interesting in practice. Long-term, if this takes off, won't work. But right now, kind of fascinating. Is there any other way (now or ever?) to see (almost) the whole of Twitter?

Wondering if my (many) years dealing with MMOs and server instancing doesn't make me as worried about impersonation, etc etc here.

Thought: if the character limit is 500, then having the default setup be columns of text won't be user-friendly for long.

Of course, I signed up on Ello, too, so, what do I know from good.
