One more quick post, and then I'm away until later. I very nearly had a late start to everything this morning, but it was worth it.

Last year, I grew some teasels from seed. Imagine my delight this morning to find there were goldfinches sitting on the seedheads, happily munching away. It was a lovely sight, but they were too skittish to get close and take a picture. I almost lost track of time, watching them.🙂

Here's the teasels in question, from this spring. octodon.social/media/2xXBjA6dl

@Starling It's refreshing to see the teasel and the wild geranium from yesterday (G. robertianum, or Herb Robert as we call it here) as something besides obnoxious weeds. They are beautiful, but where I live, they have no manners whatsoever.

@Fritillaria2 They run wild in the coutnryside here, too, but there's been a drive lately to get gardeners to plant more wildflowers in their gardens as food for wildlife. I've never seen so many bees and hoverflies visiting it, so they must like it.☺

Dad's recently experimented with evening primrose, another one that the bees loved, but it very nearly took over everything!

@Starling Evening primrose is an exuberant one, for sure. It's not quite a weed here, but it's a great self-sower.
