Looks like UPS is really branching out

Next week will be one year since we learned my mom has cancer. Again. Ten years ago she beat breast cancer. This cancer is different and this time the ending is already written, but the story is still unfolding.

Trying to juggle my work, trips to the doctor, stints in the hospital, daily care needs...it is exhausting. I am all she has and I have never been more tired.

But every minute she's still here reminds me that some of the most difficult things are the most worthwhile.

Change is going to happen anyway. Either you choose or life chooses, but it's always coming.

If you try and succeed you'll have your PhD in something you enjoy. If you try and fail you'll learn that you really are emotionally equipped for it. It might not be as fun as succeeding, but you'd get through it and likely be stronger for the experience.

@TotallyArbitrary I feel the same way! I read this and thought, "I enjoy sleeping, eating food, long baths, and sometimes I read a book or watch a movie". Not sure if those are interests so much as they are adulthood. Definitely not dazzling.

@stillinhere Hope is the thing that makes us start down the path. Without it we would never begin and I suppose thus never know we were overly hopeful about that path. Some days hope is the only thing that keeps me moving - even if it's just the hope that whatever I'm dealing with will be over soon. Congrats on getting back into it today.

@schestowitz Usually I see him with an arrogant (and slightly confused) sneer. The few real smiles I've seen were when he was standing in front of his "lock her up" crowd and they were wildly cheering something he said. I'm not sure he gets joy directly from hurting people, but I'm certain he lives off the adoration he gets from his fans for the things that hurt people.

@craigmaloney The article was clear that this has been going on for years but I wonder if the activity has picked up lately and that's why it is getting more attention. I envision politically motivated people of all sorts trying to be the first to get to that information for a variety of reasons/purposes and something throwing up a red flag and drawing more scrutiny. Whatever the motivation, this seems troublesome.

@bunnyhero I just learned that there is Thanksgiving in Canada. Thank you very much, I had no idea.

Hopefully someone saved you some pumpkin pie.

@starbreaker I am not a fan of Christmas in general, but retailers shoving it down my throat earlier each year definitely doesn't help me get more Christmas spirit. It just makes me want to hurl things at strangers sooner. Before long we'll be having a cultural debate about why "Merry Christmas" isn't appropriate to say in October.

Just watched Inside Out. I may not have been its intended audience but it did make my heart happy.

@generica Agree so much with you! The right to bear arms has been twisted into a right to own anything under the sun, and gun manufacturers/lobbies are taking that (plus the fear of mass confiscation) straight to the bank.

People in rural areas can't understand the view of guns as weapons in urban areas, and people in urban areas can't understand the view of guns as tools in rural areas. Instead of listening to each other, people are digging into their trenches deeper with each tragedy.

@realtegan I am forced to take naps sometimes because a cat is in my lap purring and doesn't want to move so I get it.

@richardgoodness I understand a little bit of slang still, and some of it I can figure out if given enough time. But I do laugh at myself for how hip I clearly am not anymore.

@davidpgil Thanks for the explanation, definitely sounds like activity worth avoiding. There's plenty of that kind of crap everywhere already.

@davidpgil Well, you're way ahead of me. I'm still trying to figure out what shit posting means. I've even seen people announcing they're doing it and I can't figure it out. I guess they're not doing it right.

@stillinhere I can read the comments. Sometimes. Unfortunately a lot of comments I read make me lose faith in humanity and/or make me so angry I want to throat punch people I don't even know, so I have to stop myself from doing it too often. I'm still learning the balance between awareness and involvement.

I haven't quite figured this all out yet but it is making me curious rather than agitated. People throwing out a little bit of everything without a ton of animosity. Interesting and refreshing.
