I didn't mean to flame guys I just wanted to say that if what you want is basically a free, open source and functional MS Windows clone, you're out of luck with Linux.
@Siphonay This is very much true. In most cases, Linux simply lacks all the polish required to make it a seamless and easy to use OS. It still feels like a student project in so many ways, open source drivers are poor...There is a litany of issues I could describe. Having used Linux Distros firsthand, I can fully agree with this statement.
@Siphonay Ubuntu does a decent job at replacing Windows. But a "clone", does not exist, as you pointed out.
You could use WPS Office to replace the Office Suite, for the most part, or just Google Docs.
For most data input jobs, Linux should just fine.
If you're a dev and don't have to worry about supporting Microsoft ecosystems, you're also fine - unless you want to build iOS apps, then, in that case, neither MS or Linux are your friends.
And I don't mean that Linux is bad either... It's really good, in fact. Just that it's not adequate for the same uses as Windows. I prefer a Linux dev environment way better than a Windows one
@Siphonay WSL is pretty neat. Apparently they fixed a lot of big issues in the coming major Windows update.
@Siphonay especially since if they bought a computer that's not a mac, it like 99% definitely comes with windows 10 for free, and will get free OS updates for the rest of it's life
@koshieTheKonsoleCat I know about it but it lacks the "functional" part lol
@Siphonay And that's not a Linux.
From the gallery you can see some popular apps running. Opera, WinRar, Office and some old games.
Still a nice project.
@koshieTheKonsoleCat yeah it's really neat, even if is unstable it's still impressive
@Siphonay I think it's not that bad. I should try it.
Even WINE works (sometimes).
@Siphonay Funny, I misread your message and thought you were asking for a Linux suggestion, heh.
Windows 10 x64 has been working well for me for Steam and gaming.
