@Siphonay
Electric cars will just make us even more dependent to electricity from fossil energies and will slow down energetic transition
also batteries cost a gigantic amount of resources to produce them and are nearly unrecyclable and lithium comes from mines in africa where the work condition are horrible
how to replace fuel cars then?
don't, just get rid of them, they are shit, unless you live in a rural area just buy a bike or use your feet or something
@Siphonay Having said that, I do have a bike and bike to work every day. And to everywhere else I can within reasonable time.
.@soaklord I've seen that america's train system is so shitty they think France has a good one, but here they're always fucking late and are FUCKING EXPENSIVE
It is super discouraging to take the train rather than a car to go somewhere because of that
@Siphonay Yes, America's train system blows. I looked into a trip by train and it was more expensive than air, took 5 days to go as far as I can drive in a day. But that's because we support roads not trains. If we shifted that thinking, all the highways in America could be two lane affairs with trains taking up the other 8 lanes that would shift in a hurry. It would take decades and other than outlawing cars, so will any other solution. Actually, they should outlaw single occupancy driving...
@Siphonay Give the US better public transit + light rail
@Siphonay e-bikes are a good compromise - I don't own a car, and use one to travel to work which is 10-15km away in a rural area).
90% of the components are the same as in your average bicycle.
The rest is no more impact than buying a new computer or other gadget (accu is like a giant laptop battery, but much smaller than that needed for a car) and more maintainable.
I can easily carry 15 kilos on it as well as myself and make a 15km the journey in just over half an hour...
@Siphonay You replace cars with railcars, or specifically, trains. All those roads could hold a lot of trains on them that would allow for longer than biking distances. And power them with solar panels on the tarmac not being used. Musk's idea is a start, but kill all teh roadz and give us a retrofuture where trains are what moves... America, France, Britain, name of country here. No train from LA to Las Vegas is an absolute crime considering the cars/cargo making that trek every day.
