Hotter programming take

Computer languages almost all have a westerner bias

Hotter programming take

If you can't recognize this you can't say there's code so good that it's universally intuitive

re: Hotter programming take

@Siphonay yes

you say “almost all”. can you name some? im very curious as that bias is so widespread and so pernicious

re: Hotter programming take

@garbados think of a single commonly used language with keywords that aren't in English

re: Hotter programming take

@Siphonay @garbados Oh sorry you said commonly used, lol!

re: Hotter programming take

@Siphonay i can’t 😬 ergo being curious

@Siphonay i reeeally wouldn't say that…

Russian has 33 letters so ALL punctuation like }{./,';:[] goes above digits on the keyboard or are just missing (we switch to Latin to type them). Imagine you have to switch to Latin every time you have to type [ or ].

So yeah, don't start from programming languages. All keyboards are ASCII-centric, designed in USA.

@Siphonay is that a hot take? That seems like a plain ol' neutral fact to me.

Hotter programming take

@Siphonay this take is so cold I'm gonna put it in the microwave, ok?

@Siphonay i wonder how far Chu Bong-Foo got with his idea for a natively Chinese computer science (and, i infer, computing language and structure thereof) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chu_Bong
