Welp, bunq doesn't allow one to create an account without any phone number, so I guess I cannot use it...

Still searching for a bank with a customer API and no phone number requirement, why is it so rare...

Because two factors authentication is the norm (there's probably some ISO on that) and that phone is the "easiest" way to do it (cheaper than card readers) for them :(

@belgianzoe TOTP... Or challenge / response, or e-mail confirmation, or even a secondary e-mail...

There are some banks allowing to not have any phone number, but they don't provide a consumer API.

@belgianzoe besides, with how hard and pricey it is to get a phone number, not only it forces you to keep one, but it also makes it impossible to effectively prevent reuse, theft, or revocation/fast change in case of leak or sim swapping...

Basically, phone is shit for long-term security, and dangerous to leak

@belgianzoe but somehow, in today's world, it's considered abnormal to not have a phone number, or not have a phone number that can be used for subscribing
