OKAY SO. Get Out was great. I can't quite put my thoughts together yet but beyond the general satire of liberal laissez faire racism I was especially interested in themes of performativity and status group threat and fear of black excellence.
What was NOT so great was the jackass who yelled "that was fucking shit" as he walked out, and the other sleazy dude going up to people afterwards (including me) trying to get them to agree that it was 1/10 and a waste of money.
Vancouver has a weird relationship and history with race and racism (...don't we all) that I haven't been able to quite get a grasp on, so it's hard not to read a little bit into that.
