Jesus, is there anything more suffocating on social media than complete strangers "liking" and commenting on everything you post as if you're close friends?

@Frankenbeans I suppose it´s just part of a re-adjustment period one has following a broader social media period, a socalled acclimatization, if you will? After all, where only tiny pictures and texts have to convey intent and ideas, we cannot act as if with social grace, now can we?

@Richard_ermen I think you can. I think everyone, especially as we get older, can understand that no one likes perfect strangers trying to barge into their lives.

@Richard_ermen @Frankenbeans [barging in on the conversation:] I think it's also to do with platform design.

Twitter and Mastodon are following a sort of "everyone is a broadcaster" model which encourages that sort of casual commenting, but Facebook not so much, because subtle design differences make it more focused on friends and family.

@apLundell @Richard_ermen Yeah, I'm really bitching about Facebook. One of the reasons why I've been so hesitant to talk about Mastodon on Facebook (and especially reveal where I'm active) is that I don't want a bunch of those people coming over here to do the same.
