@koos the faint smell of cherry blossoms, and users like you! =D
@Mainebot and they need to be for everyone that is carrying a dang golf umbrella!
@Mainebot and not just a bit rainy today... it's a nice solid rain!
Anyone that likes games: Gamasutra has an article up where they interview Ron Gilbert about Thimbleweed Park!
Ok guys, very funny.
@randomhappening I'm very curious to see how this will shake out. What types of groups/media will make a push on here first, and what vector/instance will they use.
Maybe the way for brands to use it would be to just make their own instance, and federate themselves into the public timeline?
thanks @CobaltVelvet for keeping octodon.social up when it's getting flogged hard. population's nearly doubled since I signed up this morning.
@Kryten ... I barely know what node.js is (and only because I am trying to build things for beam.pro). Kudos to you for being a builder!
@comzeradd a much smarter decision process than I used. I didn't even *consider* the possibility of security. #oops
@darkblade @Tempben the name was part of it for me too. It reminded me of Chuck Norris and the Octogon, which was used in a really good bit on the Colbert Report.
So far, most other people seem to have a better decision making thought process than I do. =D
@Rasgueado similar reasons to yourself but also saw.de domain at social.tchncs.de - have always had respect for German hacker/open source ethos since 1980s and days of Chaos Computer Club etc.
German folk (away from big corporates, politicians etc) tend to be smart, produce and share cool stuff and keep projects going even when there isn't profit involved) - I still visit (German language) websites about tech and electronics that were set up in the 1990s and running to this day.
@vfrmedia I like your decision making metodology a *Lot* more than mine. =D
@teddiesage1987 @darkblade that's the way I understand it to now yes! I was feeling a bit weird about it at first, but it all seems to make sense now!
@randomhappening I thoguht the same thing! I had that pang of... "awww... it's not the source" but... it seems alright still so far. =D
Since Mastodon.social has been down for registration, what id driving you to pick your particular instance?
Personally I went with the next highest userbase, uptime, and the stated amount of federation.
How about everyone else?
@andreagrandi oh oh... yeah I don't know. Sorry! I haven't finished reading all the docs yet though on github
@andreagrandi I think in settings it allows you to do a csv export of your instance account.
@joonian I want to say I saw a bot (?) posting a graphic with user counts last night. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the account.
@Idoubtit I understand. Anytime we place our thoughts into a public forum, we're exposing ourselves to an unknown array of experiences and points of view.
It's unfortunate when an immediate response is negative when it could be informative, but sometimes the wounds people have are so serious that is going to be their first response.
I hope no one has to be a target. Maybe one day.
@Kryten I wish I was better at coding to actually contribute, but I'm curious to see what comes out of this community.
