Been thinking about linking to toots from posts. I want to link back to the toot to allow commenting; since the blog is public we want to allow others the ability to join a mastodon instance. Grow the community, yes? (1/2)

It looks like the best way to link to a toot from a blog is:

"instance.name/web/statuses/xxx
The "x"s being the toot identification number.

Creating the header: "Blah is a user on instance. You can follow them or interact with them if you have an account anywhere in the fediverse. If you don't, you can sign up here.

it supports oembed and opengraph i think, so that external software can integrate it and show a clean preview. you could maybe find a plugin for your blog that can do that.
