@xanthia California seems like a better fit for a motorcycle fiend! I used to have a '78 Yamaha XS750 Special, but I could only ride it for 4 months of the year.
...also, one time the engine lit on fire while I was riding it down the highway. The switch to fuel injection was a good one.
@Phancypants where's a toasted nuts emoji when I need one?
@xanthia Hah! I'm going to be honest... they did not cover that situation in rider training. I was between 2 small towns with volunteer fire departments so they sent out about a dozen fire vehicles as training when I called rescue!
They seemed really disappointed that it had gone out before they got there.
@Phancypants Oh, that would be sad riding only 4 months out of the year!
I've only had an engine blow up on the highway (while I was lane splitting) with no fire. Damn! That would have sucked!
@xanthia Now I'm picturing you pinballing between busses shouting "It's mechanical! Not me!"
@Phancypants Hah, that was almost kind of accurate, with more surging than pinballing!
@xanthia I had a broken petcock that leaked too much fuel into the cylinders, which then overflowed into the oil reserve. Once the engine warmed up, it spit a mixture of fuel and oil up the breather line onto the top of the hot engine and I was riding napalm. Luckily, I was wearing full gear so I could brake and bail without getting hurt :)
