@Pedalville This, all the way.

People actually hear you on here. Twitter/Facebook are pretty insular unless you're popular—you mostly talk to your friends. Sure, you can reply in comment threads, but nobody's gonna find your stuff.

Mastodon opens up its whole world to you. You get updates from ppl you'd never have found otherwise—and they can find you.

I've seen people talk about how social media feels like screaming into a void. Mastodon doesn't, and that's a heady experience.

Woke up this morning thinking about Mastodon. I love how I'm excited about this thing but can't really explain why.

I totally get the 90's usenet comparison - it's that giddy feeling of a new world opening up, on *our* terms.

Let's confuse things a bit - there is a thing called #matrix - it is a decentralized and modern alternative to whatsapp&co.

You folks choosed freedom for microblogging - let's continue with freedom in chatting.

A delightful picnic on Hampstead Heath. The sun is shining. Everyone is happy. A remarkable number of people are gay and / or speaking French.

I think I've found Mastodon IRL.

Facebook: Everyone knows me. I am me

Twitter: Some people know me. I am a persona based on me

Mastodon: Nobody knows me. I am a transient, sentient beam of ultraviolet light

Where are my dragon-themed followbots? :(

never thought i'd see the day when "oh look, another dragon themed followbot" is a rational sentence that comes out of my brain but i guess we really do live in interesting times

I think the Tusky client helps a LOT with bringing up the “early blogging” feel that I'm feeling with Mastodon right now. Like, I don't even have to wait until the end of day. I'll just open the client, verbal diarrhea in it, and SOMEONE will find it mildly interesting.

IIRC with blogging tho, that shit didn't last. We'll start seeing more commercial, “brand”-conscious people moving in, and if this place survives it, that early feel will disappear.

Mastodon: *paints beautiful wall mural*

Twitter: Who's gonna buy that? You can't even transport it?

Mastodon: *does an elaborate interpretive dance in front of the mural*

Twitter: Wait, is that part of the art?

Mastodon: *group meditation chanting "awooo"*

Twitter: Ok but how do you monetize?

Mastodon: *stretch*

Twitter: ...?

Mastodon: *a thousand voices sing a hymn to diversity as a million weirdos dance*

Twitter: We're, uh... we're going home now...

Mastodon: *builds space ship*

Unexpected side-effect of mastodon is improving my terrible French. Just realised if I view on Chrome, I can right-click > translate to English.

TFW you spend hours on a "puzzle" and it turns out to be a bugged easter egg.

Hey bin, what music are you into?

Off to a gig tonight. On Twitter, I would feel compelled to say who and where. Here just feels so much more abstract - who cares what it is? I'm just doing a thing, and I like seeing the abstract references to the things you all are up to.
