I now view trees very differently than I used to.
A couple years ago I was playing D&D, and my necromancer was attempting to make peace with the druid in her party by saying something like "trees use their own corpse as a skeleton."
Since then I have kept thinking about how the living part of a tree grows on the ever increasing dead heartwood, and how they maintain their shape in large part from the shape of their skeletal corpse.
Definitely makes them more interesting, I think.
