Hello everyone who is new to Mastodon! Make sure you try and find some folks to follow who have been here for a long time. Don't make the mistake of just following folks joining right now or those you know from other places. Because many of these will leave soon, making you think this place is dead when in reality it's buzzing with activity. I've seen it happen too often with new social services and sites.

Hello World! This is my post. I'm a senior CS student from Virginia and am somewhat new to mastadon (although I tried it a few years ago.) I've been pretty impressed with both the community and the software and am really excited about it. I'm part of the robotics club at Liberty University and have built a few of my own robots at home as well. This past year or so has been full of all kinds of new experiences for me and I'm super excited to see where it goes.

A good tag to use if you need help on Mastodon is #needhelp

There are people who have that tag as something they follow who will do their best to answer Mastodon help questions!

Everyone’s level of socialization may vary but as social creatures it’s good for our hearts(literally & figuratively) to find & occasionally stretch our social skills.

I’m not the kind of prof to make fun of students’ mistakes, but when one of them defined mutations as “genetic altercations” I thought about it waaaay more than was intended.

Statisticians be like:
P > 0.05: I sleep
P <= 0.05: REAL SHIT???

Hi everyone! I’m a biology professor, amateur coder and statistician by day. In my off time I’m a science enthusiast, dog lover and tabletop gamer, including D&D. If I didn’t work from home so frequently, I’d almost never feel the need to socialize in person. 😝
